Reaffirming the biblical teaching of “whoever unjustly kills a single person is as if he had killed all of mankind; and whoever saves the life of one person is as if he has saved the life of all of humanity (5:33)” the Holy Quran implores Muslims to do everything to protect the sanctity of life. In his Farewell Pilgrimage address, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Even as this month, land and day of Pilgrimage are holy, so has God made the blood, property and honor of every human being sacred.”
The Baltimore chapter of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is actively engaged in donating blood on an individual and communal level. Over the years, members are participated in various blood drives. So in 2010, when the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community launched its “Muslims for Peace” campaign in the United States and the United Kingdom, our chapter was at the forefront. The campaign included bus and billboard advertisements, interfaith dialogue events and distribution of flyers by our members door-to-door and in public areas.
We partnered with Blood drives at the Johns Hopkins University, Oriole Park, the Maryland State Fair at Timonium fairgrounds and many other places. We partner with the American Red Cross to raise hundreds of units of blood annually in Baltimore.
Nationwide, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has raised over 10,000 units of blood annually since 2010.
